Spinster

I live in a pretty small place. Technically, I live in half a house but it's definitely the small half (the other half serves as the offices for an insurance company). I have a kitchen and living room downstairs and a bedroom and bathroom upstairs. And one small closet. Yes, only one.

But let's see what I brought home to the overstuffed apartment this weekend, shall we? First up, fiber. This is (from left to right) four ounces of llama fiber (from wild fibre works) a pound of Romney fleece roving (shorn from a sheep named Lambetta), and a pound of Corriedale roving.

They are sitting on a blue rubbermaid bin. I bought a few of these bins to store my precious natural fibers in when it became apparent that I'm sharing my small half-house with a few intrepid mice.

Here's the yarn I brought home. I got several skeins of undyed yarn so I could experiment with dyeing them. The rest is odds and ends of locally spun and dyed wool from various local vendors most of whose names I've forgotten (sorry).

And la pièce de la résistance, a new spinning wheel! A little Ashford Traveller, purchased for me by my incredibly generous Mom and Dad. Thanks guys, I love it! And you, of course. I knew I had a reason for bringing my mother along. Aside from her witty conversation and excellent company, I mean.

Sadly, I have no idea how to spin. For now I can only look at it wistfully, imagining myself spinning merrily away. . . Not for long though. I'm already looking for a place that will teach me to spin.

Congrats on the new wheel. It's beautiful. I'm sure it wont take you long to find a place to learn to spin. Especially not up there.
